If anyone is interested in reading more about the Ashcrofts and the other canal  families that worked the Lancaster canal a book was published in 2006  entitled 'Life on the Lancaster Canal' price £8.  It details the everyday lives  of the main families who worked it, the boats, drownings, horse dealings,  packet boats and pleasure cruises. There is also a new book (2007) called 'Lancster Canal in Focus' which is a 60  page pictorial book of over 120 photographs covering the length of the canal  but its images also cover packet boats, haulage, families, leisure and pleasure.
